Glory to Jesus Christ!
This is an important official announcement from His Eminence, Archbishop MELCHISEDEK. Effective Sunday, July 3, 2022, the MINIMUM SUBSTITUTE HONORARIA for priests and deacons officiating at our diocesan parishes for Sunday morning services has been MODIFIED to the following:
* PRIEST ($ 225.00)
* DEACON ($ 175.00)
This is in addition to the round-trip vehicle reimbursement mileage of $ .59 per mile (as set for 2022 by the I.R.S.).
It should be noted that it has been many years since this remuneration has been modified. It brings our honoraria up to more comparable levels with other metropolitan Pittsburgh Orthodox jurisdictions as well as other O.C.A. dioceses across the country. It is also reflective of the great increase in vehicle costs being incurred by the priests and deacons for their official duties as clergy in this important ministry - often driving many miles for extended periods of time. This does not preclude any parish from offering MORE than the minimum honorarium as a sign of gratitude if feasible. Honoraria for non-Sunday services can be discussed separately in advance among the local dean, substitute clergyman, and the parish.
This official memorandum should be shared immediately with the parish council - and - especially with the responsible financial officer in each of our diocesan parishes.
Please contact the chancery if you have any questions. His Eminence thanks you for your immediate attention to this required change.
In Christ,
Fr. Bill
