Remembering Metropolitan Theodosius - October 18 &19, 2025

This past weekend marked the 5th anniversary of the repose of Metropolitan Theodosius. Son of the Archdiocese, Metropolitan Theodosius grew up in Canonsburg, a faithful member of St John the Baptist parish there. Upon his retirement as Primate of the Orthodox Church in America in 2002, he returned home to Canonsburg until his repose on October 19, 2020. He is interred at the Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration in Elwood City.

On the eve of the anniversary, faithful joined the monastics to serve a panakhida at his grave. The next day, His Eminence and faithful from around the diocese gathered together at St John the Baptist Church to serve a panakhida there, followed by a presentation by Archivist Emeritus of the OCA, Subdeacon Alexis Liberovsky, on the life and service of Metropolitan Theodosius, and his cousin, another son of St John's, Archpriest Paul Lazor, who had reposed 5 months earlier than Metropolitan Theodosius.
