MEMORY ETERNAL: Archpriest Alexander Poshyvajlo - April 22, 2025

With sadness, but yet with much joy at this time of the celebration of our Lord’s Holy Pascha, I ask you to keep in your prayers the newly departed servant of God +ARCHPRIEST ALEXANDER POSHYVAJLO, who reposed in the Lord earlier today. Fr. Alexander, of course, has been the parish priest at the St. Michael’s Parish, Curtisville, PA, in our Archdiocese for many, many decades. Please also keep Matushka Anna and the family members in your prayers at this time of loss.

 

The family invites friends on both Sunday April 27 and Monday April 28 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at his church, St. Michael R.O. Church, 92 Liberty Street, Curtisville, PA 15032. Parastasis services will be held each day at 6 pm.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday 9:30 am at St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, 8290 Thompson Run Road, Allison Park, PA 15101. Arrangements were entrusted to the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer. He will be laid to rest in St. Alexander Nevesky Orthodox Cemetery, West View. Priests/deacons desiring to concelebrate at either/both of the two Parastas services at the Curtisville church or at the 9:30 AM Tuesday “Service for the Burial of Priest” at the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Allison Park should wear “white” vestments. Laity assistance singing the responses to the two Parastas services and the burial service is also appreciated.

 

Archpriest Alexander Poshyvajlo, 92 of Curtisville, West Deer Township, died Tuesday April 22, 2025 at home with his family by his side. He was born June 14, 1932 in Rashivka, Ukraine to the late John and Anna (Kozacja) Poshyvajlo. Father emigrated to the US as a young boy to Mississippi, where he worked picking cotton with the other laborers. He and his family then moved to upstate New York where he graduated from high school then graduated from St. Tikhon Seminary, South Cannon, PA, in 1957. Father was ordained a priest in 1960. Shortly after ordination he was stationed at St. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, Uniondale, PA staying there for 3 years, until the bishop transferred him to St. Michael’s Orthodox Church where he has been the Pastor the past 62 years. He enjoyed reading, gardening, bee keeping and dedicating his life to helping others, especially sending care packages of clothing and medication to the Ukraine.

Father Alexander is survived by his wife of 64 years Anna (Kyryczenko) Poshyvajlo and his son Alexander “Sasha” Poshyvajlo at home and several cousins.
