Lenten Retreat in Clearfield - March 29, 2025
On the weekend March 28-30, 2025, at St Michael Church at 163 Hemlock St in Irvona, we were blessed to welcome Protopresbyter Stephen Loposky, Director of Camp Nazareth and Chancellor-Elect of the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Diocese (ACROD), for this year's Lenten Parish Retreat. The weekend’s theme centered on the Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox Church, with Fr. Stephen leading Saturday’s sessions, offering insights into the meaning and movements of our worship. In his engaging style, he helped the attendees understand why we do what we do in the liturgy, making this a valuable experience for all.
Friday and Sunday also provided opportunities to deepen our faith:
- Friday evening, instead of the Presanctified Liturgy, we served Lenten Vespers followed by a special instruction on confession, particularly for our youth who are preparing for their first confession.
- Sunday morning, in place of the sermon, they gathered in the Nave for a Proskomide demonstration—a unique opportunity to witness and reflect on this preparatory service.
Thank you to the Councils of St. Michael Church in Irvona and Nativity of the Theotokos Church in Madera for their support of this time of prayer, fellowship, and learning. Also, this retreat was sponsored by the Ss. Mary and Michael Outreach Fund, so there was no cost to attend.
